State DOJ launches anti-‘smurfing’ campaign

A statewide campaign aimed at keeping over-the-counter prescriptions out of the hands of methamphetamine producers kicked off in Northeast Wisconsin.
Attorney General Brad Schimel announced the launch of the anti-“smurfing” campaign, a part of KNOWMeth, at Pick N’ Save in Ashwaubenon Tuesday.
“Smurfing” is purchasing over-the-counter cold or allergy medicines containing pseudoephedrine (PSE) for criminals to use to create meth.
Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith held up empty boxes of over-the-counter medicine with PSE and says he finds them all time in his east side neighborhood.
