System helps law enforcement combat meth production
INDIANAPOLIS – Wednesday, members of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association attended a training, held by Appriss, the developer of the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx), Indiana’s real-time pseudoephedrine (PSE) sales tracking system. Attendees included members of the Rush County Sheriff’s Office.
The NPLEx system, used in 34 states nationwide, is a vital tool for law enforcement and retailers in their efforts to combat meth production in Indiana. By enforcing legal gram limits, NPLEx also ensures that honest cold and allergy sufferers still have access to over-the-counter (OTC) medicines containing PSE. Through the second quarter of 2017, the NPLEx system in Indiana helped block the sale of 23,404 boxes of PSE – 55,104 grams – from being purchased illegally. Additionally, since 2015, Indiana has seen a 68 percent decline in meth lab seizures through the first half of this year.
