Thank You Police For Stopping Meth Cooks

5.19.16–Buddy Bunch, The Selma Times Journal

Dear editor,

In honor of National Police Week, I want to commend our local law enforcement for their work in stopping meth cooks from purchasing cold and allergy medicine containing pseudoephedrine. As a pharmacy owner, I sell all types of medicine to treat a host of ailments. Across the board, and especially during this time of the year, allergy medicine is the most popular.

With spring allergies in full effect, it’s important I have enough in stock for my customers. It’s unfortunate that some criminals are abusing the system and buying cold and allergy medicine to make meth at home. The good news is our police officers are doing something about it. As part of the NPLEx, pharmacies like mine work in tandem with police to monitor suspicious purchase activity and instantly block individuals from purchasing the medicine if they’ve hit their limit allowed by law. I want to personally thank police for their dedication to this effort. I know, every day, they have a lot on their plate.

They’ve made this a priority and because of it I feel safer. I also know the impact extends beyond my store. Because of their work, less meth is being made by home cooks and meth lab seizures are down overall in our state. Since 2012, meth lab seizures are down a staggering 77 percent. Well done police, well done.
