Alabama Continues to See Wide Success with the NPLEx System

6.18.15 –National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators

LUTHERVILLE, Md., June 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) today highlights the noteworthy results achieved by Alabama’s real-time, stop-sale pseudoephedrine (PSE) tracking system during the first quarter of 2015.

The National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) system automatically blocks unlawful PSE purchases at the point of sale and blocks convicted drug offenders from purchasing PSE. Police officers and narcotics agents often set up NPLEx “watch lists” that notify them via email when a meth suspect attempts to purchase PSE. The data from NPLEx shows that during the first quarter of 2015, the system blocked the sale of over 7,500 boxes of PSE-containing medicine, keeping almost 19,000 grams from being illegally purchased in Alabama.
