Our Legislators Show Wise Restraint

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, Oklahoma City is the nation’s third-worst city to live in with allergy symptoms, and Tulsa is No. 12. The only solace is that Oklahomans still have access to over-the-counter cold and allergy medicine containing pseudoephedrine. There had been attempts in recent years by some legislators to make those products available by prescription only, as a way to fight back against the meth epidemic in our state. However, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration, 90 percent of the meth in the United States is made in Mexico and shipped in by cartels, meaning any restriction on pseudoephedrine would barely put a dent in meth use in our state. On behalf of all allergy sufferers in Oklahoma, I want to thank our legislators for listening to the facts and not punishing law-abiding citizens.
