It’s rare to find good news in the battle against meth but we found we are making noted progress last year as methamphetamine labs were down significantly in our state.
There are many factors for this decline.
Currently Alabama has some of the toughest meth laws in the country, including a meth offender block list, which prohibits the sale of pseudoephedrine (PSE) products (sometimes used to make meth (to anyone convicted of a meth crime.
In addition, Alabama is part of the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) system that instantaneously tracks the purchases of all sales of PSE in our state.
Recent data released by the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) shows that NPLEx has been a tremendous tool for stopping the illegal sale of PSE to potential meth makers.
