NPLEx Program Showed Strength in 2014
System helps curb meth production in U.S.
LUTHERVILLE, Md., Jan. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) – a nonprofit organization that facilitates cooperation between law enforcement, healthcare professionals, state regulatory agencies and pharmaceutical manufacturers in the prevention and investigation of drug diversion has released the 2014 National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx) results. NPLEx reported results for January through December (http://www.appriss.com/nplexstats), and the report suggests movement in the right direction for the real-time stop-sale system created by Appriss, Inc for NADDI.
The breakdown by state in the report shows the total number of boxes reported as purchased, the total number of grams reported as purchased, the total number of boxes and grams that were blocked based on state and federal laws, and the total number of unique individuals reported as purchasing over-the-counter pseudoephedrine and ephedrine. These numbers indicate the laws that are being enforced by NPLEx at the point-of-sale, in real-time, and across state lines. The states included in the report have had legislation in place for 2 years.
NADDI Executive Director Charles Cichon states that, “These year-end statistics are very convincing, and show just how effective NPLEx is at preventing potential meth cooks from acquiring the ingredients to make this terrible drug. I am confident in the continued success of NPLEx as the footprint grows, and more law enforcement officials realize the potential of the system to help curb domestic meth production.”
