W.Va. Sees 31 Pct. Drop In Pseudoephedrine Sales

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) A new report says pseudoephedrine sales in West Virginia are down about 31 percent compared to last year.
Pseudoephedrine is a cold medication ingredient that’s used illegally to manufacture methamphetamine.
The report says pharmacies in West Virginia sold 230,080 boxes of cold medications containing pseudoephedrine through September. That’s down from 335,985 boxes sold during the same nine-month period in 2013.
The report also says the number of people buying these cold medications in West Virginia has declined by 32,000.
Media outlets report that the West Virginia Retailers Association released the report Tuesday. The report is based on data from the NPLEx tracking system.
