Experts Say Proposed Pseudoephedrine Law Won’t Work

To help prevent the making of meth, lawmakers are proposing that cold medicines only be accessible with a doctors note.

Right now in Illinois, pseudoephdrine is kept behind the pharmacy counter. Experts say the program is working.

According to the DEA, 70% to 90% of the nations meth is smuggled across the Mexican border.

One expert says requiring a prescription for cold medicine will hurt everyday customers.

“In my view it would absolutely not work. Two states have tried this. Mississippi and Oregon. They have this RX only program. They have not seen results that are better than in any other state,” said Alex Brill from Matrix Global Advisors.
